Management Education Services

Welcome to the

CENTER for INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTIVITY and SUSTAINABILITY

Our Business Performance Initiative can help your business cut costs, improve productivity, and prepare for the future. What's more, several of our services are absolutely free!

For the past several years, we've been working to help businesses reduce costs, increase profits, and create jobs without spending a lot of money. We do this by educating undergraduate and post graduate (executive) students at their universities as well as business-people at their place of work. In addition, we conduct energy and waste assessments for all types of businesses. In other words, we don't just push information around - we actually do the things we talk about. Our focus is simple. We initiate and foster business performance as a means of reducing waste and creating a cleaner, more profitable future for all.

Put more succinctly, our objective is to help businesses:

  1. increase efficiency
  2. cut costs
  3. manage more effectively
  4. reduce waste
  5. optimize employee performance
  6. understand and appreciate the importance of customers, and,
  7. instill real quality and value

As you read this, a growing number of businesses (some of which may be your competitors) are cutting their costs and increasing their competitive advantage while enjoying the profit potential behind what is commonly called 'going green' (think of 'green' as money rather than leaves). In the process, these same companies are preparing for an influx of upcoming waste and environmental laws and resource protection measures - and may even be involved in the legislation behind them.

Make no mistake:
ISSUES REGARDING SUSTAINABILITY and WASTE MINIMIZATION ARE NOT GOING AWAY!

The world's resources are limited, many countries are literally running out of places to dump their physical waste, and the compromising of basic materials that sustain human life (such as clean air and water and nutritious food) is an ever-growing cause for concern. In addition, human society needs more jobs, price stabilization is a worthwhile pursuit, and working to ensure that the future will be less expensive (in every way) rather than more expensive is imperative.

Good management and leadership is crucial to achieving these and other gains in job creation, waste reduction, and sustainable performance. The organizations we help (and are currently helping) benefit from our input because we are experienced professionals who 'walk the walk' and know what waste minimization, sustainability, and running a business are about. We do not treat waste minimization or sustainability (or business and management) as topics of discussion, but rather as a means to improve business performance. Our work produces results and improves bottom-lines. Topics include (but are not limited to):

  1. Cutting costs and improving quality
  2. Sharpening work competencies and skills
  3. Getting the most from employees
  4. Managing and coping with change
  5. The basics behind efficiency, sustainability, and waste reduction
  6. Handling (and working with) conflict
  7. Leadership
  8. Setting goals and objectives
  9. Building productive teams and work groups
  10. Ethics
  11. Understanding the reasons why businesses fail (and how to prevent them)
  12. Working in different cultures
  13. Improving relationships with customers

SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS AND IMPROVE YOUR BOTTOM LINE!

If you would like us to conduct an energy and waste assessment in your organization - and you're willing to allow trained students to perform the evaluation (which helps them to gain even more experience) - our service is free.

If you're interested in a more in-depth company waste assessment, a management or employee education service, a seminar or workshop, or if you'd like a university-level course taught at your institute, please read on.....

What you get in a typical seminar or assessment:

  1. Results-producing information designed to improve profits
  2. Work led by a seasoned practitioner who has lived and breathed what is being peformed or taught
  3. A tailor-made program that addresses the needs of your business or students
  4. A professional session rooted in reality and presented with clarity
  5. Your money’s worth

What you don’t get:

  1. Endless unnecessary math formulas, complex diagrams, and academic models
  2. A patronizing light and sound show
  3. High-brow buzzwords, gobbledy-gook or nonsensical jargon
  4. A presentation from someone with no practical experience
  5. Hype or gimmicks
  6. A vacuous cheerleading session
  7. A comedy routine or a boring speech

Interested? Here’s how you can develop a successful session for your business or a new program to enhance your university curriculum:

  1. Determine the needs of your employees or students.
What exactly are you looking for and how committed are you? Since you are the one requesting an assessment, an educational course, or a seminar, you must determine the aim.

  2. Make certain we are right for you.
We are not after dinner speakers nor do we dress up in clown suits and toss balls of yarn around to explain the concept of networking. Our job is to ask questions, uncover costs and poor practices, motivate and educate your employees with tailored, confidential, and applicable data that produces results.

  3. Establish a date and time a month or two (or more) in advance.
Most good education seminars (or assessments) require two to six hours (depending on what is required). If you’re not sure how much time you need, let us know and we’ll work on it together.

  4. Write down what you want (and expect).
Once you believe that your priorities and my expertise match, clearly outline your needs and expectations in a formal letter or e-mail and send it to us.

  5. Share some basic information about your company and the audience.
We're not interested in your company’s secrets, but please work with us to help us understand and familiarize myself with how your company works. Be specific about the size and demographics of your organization. And, if you're interested in a seminar, please let us know if there will be other presenters as well as the topics on which they will be speaking.

  6. Make preparations.
Ensure that the area in which we will meet is prepared and conducive to optimal use. Is there enough space? Is there a laptop hookup to a projector? Are the temperature and lights sufficient?

Ordering and Fees

Fees are flexible and are contingent upon the type and length of the education session being sought.
Generally speaking, we expect to be paid what your company or institute normally pays its lecturers, speakers, or management trainers. If you are doing this for the first time and don't know how to proceed, please e-mail us and we'll work out a fee based on the number of hours and/or days worked.
Transportation, meals, taxis and hotel costs (if applicable) must also be paid.
