MODULE OBJECTIVES (outcomes and competencies): Introducing students to the fundamentals of researching and writing a business plan. Students are evaluated by writing a valid business plan.

1. The Human Element: The Traits and Qualities Needed to Start a Business
2. Finding a Good Business Idea: How To Generate Ideas
3. Starting a Business: Good and Bad Reasons, When to Begin, and the Available Options
4. Investigating the Market: Conducting Business Research
5. The 13 Reasons Why New Businesses Fail (and How to Prevent Them) (Note this class session also includes a workshop/tutorial during which students must submit their business idea as well as the name of their group participants)
6. A Business Plan Template (an Outline for a Solid Business Plan)
7. Choosing a Location, Finance, and Making the Business Legal
8. Naming the Business and Getting Started
9. Protecting the Business with Copyrights, Trademarks, and Patents
10. Advertising and Selling: A Look at the Fundamentals

All Business Plans are Due One Week After the Last Class Session
Late assignments will not be accepted.
